Mikujy, the start-up that advocates digital sobriety

"L'illustré" went to meet young entrepreneurs who are innovating, aware of the issues linked to climate and digital transitions, and driven by the desire to rethink both the way we produce and the way we consume. Focus on "Canopé", a start-up that helps SMEs and large corporations measure the environmental impact of their IT equipment.
Before setting up his own business in 2020, Ivan Mariblanca Flinch worked for what he describes as the dark side of the environment.
“Aeronautics, oil, tobacco, you could say I’ve done it all!” jokes the 28-year-old entrepreneur.
Today, MIKUJY helps SMEs and large corporations, even beyond Switzerland’s borders, to measure the environmental impact of their IT equipment: “While many companies communicate on their carbon footprint, this often focuses exclusively on the CO2 directly emitted, and takes no account of the manufacture of equipment, nor its end-of-life and eventual recycling. Yet these two stages account for up to 80% of a company’s environmental impact.”
A pioneer on the European market, MIKUJY quantifies not only greenhouse gas emissions, but also the consumption of energy, water and natural resources by IT systems.
Once the impact of IT equipment has been measured, the start-up, which now has six employees, supports its customers in implementing a strategy of digital sobriety: purchasing energy-efficient equipment with eco-labels, improving data storage management and training teams.
These are just some of the consultancy activities that will ultimately enable companies to become self-sufficient.
“We are a technology company. Our aim is not to become permanent consultants, but rather to provide our customers with the keys to understanding and managing their own digital strategy,” concludes Ivan.
